To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of
Queensland

The petition of electors of the Division of Mulgrave draws to the
attention of the House Notice of Application for a Detached Bottle-shop,
Shop 1 Forest Gardens Shopping Centre, Cnr Benjamina Street and Forest
Gardens Boulevard, Forest Gardens, Cairns QLD 4868.

The reasons for the objection are as follows:
1. To be constructed directly opposite child care centre.
2. Increased traffic from outside Forest Gardens.
3. Forest Gardens streets designed deliberately narrow to discourage
traffic so to be utilised by residents and their visitors only.
4. Increased incidents of public drunkenness with the real potential of
personal injury to individuals using the recreational facilities and park
lands areas of Forest Gardens from discarded glass and other refuse.
5. Delphin Property Group and Forest Gardens site management actively
promotes Forest Gardens as safe community living for all the family.
6. The area between Edmonton to Woree is currently saturated with liquor
outlets with seven in existence and an additional one under construction
with drive-through, and an outlet in side Sheridan Plaza Shopping
Centre. Approval for one and an application for another all within two
to three kilometre radius of Forest Gardens.
7. History has shown that liquor outlets operating in residential areas
directly affect the quality of life in that area increasing the potential
for reduced property value.

Your petitioners therefore, request the House to not approve this
application.
