Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House the dramatic expansion of waste industries New Chum / Dinmore landfill sites from 50,000 tonnes per year to 1,900,000 tonnes per year of waste. Residents are extremely concerned over:
a) the huge scale of the landfill projects
b) the potential for odour problems emanating from the site which will include putrescent waste
c) potential effect on house prices in the surrounding suburbs including Riverview, Collingwood Park, Dinmore and Ebbw Vale
d) the increase in the number of trucks and associated traffic management issues
e) the potential for noise and dust emanating from the site and associated health impacts on residents
f) the potential to denigrate the image and general amenity of the surrounding suburbs.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call upon the Ipswich City Council and relevant State Government agencies which may act as concurrent agencies under the "Integrated Planning Act 1997" to reject any applications, using any lawful means available to them under legislation to address the legitimate concerns of residents.
