The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the dangerous intersection at Bribie Island Road and Old Toorbul Point Road. Motorists turning right onto Bribie Island Road from Old Toorbul Point Road are forced to negotiate four lanes of traffic travelling at 100 km/hr. Motorists turning left must merge immediately onto the road, with cars travelling at 100 km/hr, and find it difficult to pick up enough speed in time. At peak times, Bribie Island Road can be extremely busy and parents picking up children at nearby St Michael's School are concerned there may be more fatal car accidents at this location.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the Department of Transport and Main Roads investigate this intersection and look at options to minimise the risks posed. A reduction of the speed limit, traffic lights or a roundabout may be viable solutions to this problem.
