The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that residents of Calliope and
surrounding areas have no doctor or chemist services within 19 kms of the township. Hazelbrook Village Store
proprietors have applied for a licence to be allowed to sell certain medicines normally only obtainable from a chemist shop,
but have been refused because the business premise must be 25 kms from the nearest chemist shop. Many residents
live further away, have young children and do not have access to a vehicle, and as there is no public transport have
difficulties getting to a chemist.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to assess Hazelbrook Village Store’s application to be allowed to sell a
limited range of medicines, which will be kept away which will be kept away from public self service. The range
requested to stock is “Children’s Panadol” and an adult cold and flu medicine.
