The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the
House that the koala has recently been classified as a vulnerable species
and that in the Redland Shire there is an extremely high kill rate of
koalas as a result of motor vehicle impacts.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to urgently provide wildlife
warning signs advising motorists to “reduce speeds at night” and
reflective markers on Redland Bay Road between Windemere Road and
Boundary Road, and on Mt Cotton Road from Ney Road to the intersection of
Lyndon Road, and on Duncan Road through to the intersection with Redland
Bay Road, with a view to alerting motorists to the risk of encountering
native wildlife on roads at night.
