The Petition of Residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House the lack of consistency in current bus services to
run to a set timetable, and to the limitations of the present scheduling
of bus services operating to and from Cairns City and the suburb of
Smithfield via Holloways and Yorkeys Knob Beaches (Sunbus Route 1).

• The current scheduled (Route 1) service is unreliable, with waiting
times of up to 1 hour experienced in some instances.
• The earliest weekday service operating beyond Holloways/Yorkeys Knob
towards the suburb of Smithfield is scheduled to leave Yorkeys Knob at
8.22 am and arrive at the Smithfield Shopping Centre (via James Cook
University) at 8.37 am
• There are no Sunday services operating beyond Yorkeys Knob to and from
the Cairns Campus of James Cook University and the suburb of Smithfield.

Your Petitioners therefore request the House to, firstly, provide
assurance that the current bus service run to the scheduled timetable,
and secondly, to assist in the introduction of a more comprehensive
schedule of services to and from the said areas. The current service to
these areas restricts the safe access of residents to employment
opportunities and to services and facilities (eg. James Cook University,
Religious Services, Campus and Smithfield Shopping Centres).
