Attorney-General to appeal the sentence of Carl Wulff and others

Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that the Ipswich City Council was engaged in a wide spectrum of governance and integrity failures, from inappropriate workplace interactions and consistent breaches of policy to evidence of serious criminal offences.
In 2011 by full council resolution, Ipswich City Council delegated its former CEO, Mr Wulff the powers to make any procurement decision up to the value of $5million without Council approval.
On Friday Mr Wulff was sentenced to 4.5 years of prison with a recommendation for release after 9 months after pleading guilty to corruption.
Mr Wulff’s sentence is manifestly inadequate when compared to sentences given to others for corruption such as former Minister Gordon Nuttall who received 12 years for similar offences.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the Attorney General to appeal the sentence under s669A of Criminal Code 1899 and call for a higher sentence due to the responsibility Mr Wulff had, and for a true deterrence to local government officials seeking to commit offences against ratepayers and for the integrity of local government.
