The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House the lack of consultation of the location of a
women's shelter in an established up-market residential area. A women's
shelter and its operation is in stark contrast to approximately ninety up-
market residential allotments which exist prior to this proposed shelter.
Investment in a family home for most people is their most significant
investment and there is genuine concern that market value for homes
currently worth in excess of $350 000 will be adversely affected. There
is also genuine concern for our personal safety and for our homes and
their contents. Due to the nature of the cul-de-sac allotment the
homeless shelter is readily accessible by at least six very concerned
neighbours. There are also concerns for the upkeep and maintenance (which
already has deteriorated) of a homeless shelter in an area of up-market
well cared for family homes. We are disgusted and concerned and plead for
support in the matter.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to relocate this shelter to
a more appropriate
location.
