Electors of Caloundra draws to the attention of the House that Caloundra is under growing pressure from increased traffic volumes, speeding, hooning and vehicle noise. This is occurring in residential and seaside settings where there is considerable pedestrian traffic. The State Government’s response to this petition should endeavour make Caloundra a safer, quieter and more pleasant place to visit, reside and enjoy.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that any proposed solutions to Caloundra’s traffic issues should include but not be limited to the following:

  • increase fines and demerits for hooning;
  • broaden the definition to hooning to include loud, unacceptable noise emissions;
  • changes to noise regulations to clearly define and acceptable standards (below 70 decibels) to make it easier for infringements notices to be issued;
  • regular use of radar cameras on through and foreshore streets; and
  • more police numbers in Caloundra to ensure that drivers and motorcyclists making noise, speeding and hooning are deterred from committing such infringements and are fined for such infringements.
