Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that some parts of the world are mandating all employees who face members of their public in their day to day work must be vaccinated against COVID. Sections 18 and 19 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 allow someone to take action that is reasonably practicable in all the relevant circumstances and imposes a primary duty of care on workers and other persons (such as customers). The Safe Work Australia website states that “Employers have a duty under the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws to eliminate, or if that is not reasonably practicable, minimise the risks of COVID-19 in the workplace so far as is reasonably practicable”.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to mandate all employees who face members of the public in their day to day work to be vaccinated against COVID.
