Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that currently there are no turning lanes on the Bruce Highway for the turn off to Five Mile Creek swimming hole and Five Mile Creek Road. This is causing immense safety concerns for motorists as they have to come to a complete standstill to turn on to Five Mile Creek Road with a speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour. Unfortunately, there have been numerous fatalities and near-miss accidents along this stretch of the Bruce Highway.

Five Mile Creek is a feature of Cardwell State Forrest and is a popular swimming spot for locals and visitors. Due to COVID-19 the drive market has increased, and we are seeing more people choosing to travel by road to explore National Parks. As traffic increases to these destinations, safe road conditions are crucial.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House do all within its power to cause the construction of a turning lane at the turn off to Five Mile Creek swimming hole and Five Mile Creek Road and increase road signage on this section of the Bruce Highway.
