TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draw to the attention of the House the urgent need to expedite the upgrade of Exit 38 of the M1 at Yatala. Congestion occurs most mornings and afternoons in peak periods at Exit 38. The congestion is a serious safety issue that has the potential to cause serious accidents resulting in injury or death. The congestion also has a huge financial impact on industry in the Yatala Enterprise Area and in turn an impact on the local and state economy.

Despite a completed business case for the Exit 38 upgrade being on the Minister for Transport and Main Roads desk since 2018, with a then estimated cost of $87 million, no commitment has been made by the Minister to commence the upgrade. There has not been one dollar of funding allocated in successive budgets in the past four years.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to ensure the government provides, as a matter of utmost urgency, the funding for the upgrade and improvements to the operation of Exit 38 of the M1, both for safety and economic reasons.
