TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland Residents draws to the attention of the House that currently Councillors need not resign their position prior to running for higher elected office. Councillors are putting their current positions ‘on hold’ and should they be unsuccessful they essentially walk back into their current position. Councillors should be legally required to resign their current position prior to running for higher elected office.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure legislation is changed for Councillors to hand in their resignations prior to running for a higher elected office.
