This petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House, the suffering of dogs in commercial breeding facilities ("puppy farms") across Queensland. Puppy farming involves the commodification and exploitation of "man's best friend'' in the pursuit of profit and falls foul of community expectations. Puppy farming is outdated, cruel and has no place in Queensland.

Of the immeasurable problems with puppy farming, your petitioners draw the House’s attention to the reports of dogs being confined, not having adequate bedding, not receiving veterinary care, being deprived of their basic needs, females being kept continually pregnant, and dogs being bred for aesthetic purposes with no regard for their health and wellbeing.

Your petitioners also draw the House’s attention to the tens of thousands of healthy dogs euthanised in Australia each year due to oversupply. Puppy farms are an enormous contributor of this oversupply. They profit, while burdening our community, pounds, and rescue groups. With numerous healthy dogs being euthanised each year, there is no need for puppy farms in Queensland. The Queensland community demands that the House protect the vulnerable victims of puppy farming and abolish the practice.

Your petitioners request the House to immediately ban puppy farming In Queensland and to ensure that all dogs currently in the industry are adopted out.
