TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House the application from the Department of Main Roads
to the upgrading of Evans Avenue and Malcomson Street, North Mackay.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to refuse this application
on the following grounds.

1) Parking removed from 45 Evans Avenue will result in delivery services/
customers having no convenient access to shops subsequently businesses
will close.
2) Removal of parking eliminates the safety zone between pedestrians and
traffic.
3) Resumption of land along these roads will increase noise pollution.
4) The upgrade will mean traffic leaving the shopping complex will need
to detour into Harvey Street, (to go to the City or Harbour) which houses
Mackay North Primary School, usually a quiet street.
5) Removal of parking in the clearways will result in businesses and
residents having no safe entry to or from premises
6) Construction of two right hand lanes into Glenpark Road has no
advantage, as the vehicles will still merge into one causing congestion.
7) The twelve month service relocation and construction will cause
extended traffic delays and other routes will be extremely congested.
Alternative proposals have been suggested which will provide a better
long term heavy vehicle route to the harbour with very little effect on
business or residences.
