TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House the state government's omission of Youth and
Training Incentive Scheme Initiatives for the Burdekin area. As the
Burdekin Youth are already disadvantaged by a lack of employment
opportunities due to the depressed economic state of the sugar industry,
the introduction of this scheme would provide the youth of the Burdekin
with a greater chance of gaining employment within their district. As
many of the youth have had to leave their town to gain employment in
regional centres such as Townsville.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to urgently introduce the
Youth Training Incentive Scheme Initiatives for the Burdekin area.
