Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that a Transport and Main Roads unmanned portable speed detection device was positioned on Malanda Atherton road for a period of time in September 2023. The location of the unit, the significant number of fines issued, and the consistency of the alleged speed detected has resulted in serious concerns being raised regarding the calibration of the detection unit, its position, and potential malfunctions pertaining to the unit and the data gathered.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to:

(a)    thoroughly investigate the concerns raised by community members relating to the calibration of the unit, potential malfunctions of the unit at this locality, and any and all matters pertaining to the veracity of the infringement notices issued in relation to the above; and

(b)    call on the Minister to suspend all infringement notices issued by this device at this location while this matter is properly and independently investigated.
