The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House to the dangers caused by non licensed persons
working on Queensland water supply and sewage systems. Of a special
concern is the installation of water meters and services. This work was
deregulated when the Water Supply and Sewage Act was repealed. Workers in
the plumbing industry with no formal qualifications and no professional
responsibility to the Plumbers and Drainers Board is an accident waiting
to happen. A high quality water supply and sewage system is the right of
every Queenslander.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to make the necessary
amendments to the Water Act and the Plumbing and Drainage Act to require
any workers working on water and sewage pipes in the State of Queensland
to be licensed by the Plumbers and Drainers Board.
