Objection to proposed new legislation with Education (General Provisions) Bill 2006 changing the way religious instruction is delivered in State schools

MARYBOROUGH QLD 4650
The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House their objection to proposed new legislation within the Education (General Provisions) Bill 2006 that will change the way religious instruction is delivered in State schools, wherein parents will have to expressly opt their children in to religious education sessions. This will significantly undermine the very successful cooperative programs implemented by at least 20 local churches in
Maryborough alone.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to maintain the status quo already in place, wherein parents must expressly opt their children out if they do not wish them to receive the available religious instruction.
