The petition of the citizens of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the
State Government's 'Westgate Strategic Plan' proposals to carry out major developments of land
at Wacol; and our serious concerns about some parts of the proposals. We note the
unsatisfactory brief public consultation for this plan, and also the likely negative impact on the
lifestyle and amenity of the citizens in the Wacol and extensive surrounding areas
Your petitioners therefore request the House to call on the State Government not to construct
any bridges across the Brisbane River in the Westgate precinct, not to allow any further
industrial estates in the precinct, to ensure residential development is low-density in keeping with
adjoining suburbs, to ensure any development minimizes local traffic congestion, and to have
adequate consideration given to preserving the valuable local wildlife and its essential habitat.
