TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The Petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House our concern that the Lytton Quarantine Jetty is decaying and cannot be used by tourists and students wishing to visit Lytton Heritage Park by boat.

Lytton Park is arguably Brisbane's prime heritage site, with Australia's only moated fort, a splendid Military Museum, uniformed guides and Dramatised Interpretive Tours to entertain visitors as they step back in time to learn what life was like in years gone by at the Fort and the Quarantine Station. The Park also boasts the magnificently restored Quarantine convention/entertainment centre, adjacent to the former airfield used for Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's Australian National Airways Sydney to Lytton flights.

Lytton Heritage Park is a feature on the Riverside Heritage Trail from the Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Commissariat Store, the Naval Stores Museum and Newstead House. It is essential that river access is made available to provide a safe alternative to Lytton Road with its constant flow of Port of Brisbane traffic.

Your petitioners therefore request that the House take the necessary steps to have the Quarantine Jetty repaired to accommodate river traffic wishing to land passengers at Lytton Heritage Park.
