The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland, draws to the attention of the House the vast numbers of people with severe mental illnesses unable to find effective treatment are increasing and so over-medicated they are continually sedated and unable to function. This denies them the opportunity of getting well.
Your petitioners therefore request the house to address the following needs as a matter of urgency.
1.) Mental health patients need to receive all necessary forms of therapy in addition to appropriate levels of medication.
2.) Readily available care within 24 hours of presenting in a crisis is vital.
3.) Specialised long-term 24/7 residential programs individually tailored to result in monitored independent, living capabilities in which people with severe mental illnesses, including DD, are treated as human beings is urgently needed. Certain overseas programs are getting people welI and are cost effective programs, structured to achieve consistently positive results. Every living person is entitled to have these types of programs made available to them. The principal petitioner is familiar with these programs and has proof of their effectiveness.
