ABOUT THE BILL
The Bill was introduced into the Queensland Parliament on 20 August 2013 by the Minister for Education, Training and Employment. It has been referred to the Education and Innovation Committee for detailed consideration and reporting back to the Parliament by 9 October 2013.
The Bill would amend legislation to strengthen discipline in Queensland state schools by:
- providing Queensland state school principals with stronger disciplinary powers and more flexibility and autonomy around the making of discipline decisions
- bolstering the grounds for suspension and exclusion and
- reducing administrative burdens to enable quick and firm responses to problem behaviour.
