About The Bill
On 15 July 2015, the Minster for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services, the Hon. Cameron Dick, introduced the Public Health (Childcare Vaccination) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 into the Queensland Parliament.
In accordance with Standing Order 131 of the Standing Rules and Orders of the Legislative Assembly, the Bill was referred to the Health and Ambulance Services Committee (the Committee) for detailed consideration.
In accordance with a resolution of the Legislative Assembly on 17 July 2015, the Committee must report to the Parliament on or before 2 October 2015.
Objective of Bill
The Explanatory Notes state the primary purpose of the Bill is to amend the Public Health Act 2005 to give the person in charge of an approved education and care service the option to refuse, cancel or place a condition on the enrolment or attendance of a child who is not vaccinated, or not up to date with their scheduled immunisations.
The Bill will also amend the Health Ombudsman Act 2013 to provide an authorised person with the power to require a person to attend and answer questions and produce documents in relation to investigations into serious healthcare complaints and offences under the Act.
