Public Hearing
Subject to submissions received, the committee will hold a public hearing with invited witnesses at Parliament House on Wednesday, 17 February 2016. Further details will appear here in due course. The hearing will be broadcast live on-line and will be able to be seen here.
Objectives of the Bill
The key objectives of the Bill are to –
- Provide that the CCC chief executive officer (CEO) is not a CCC commissioner
- Require bipartisan support of the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee for the CEO appointment
- Limit temporary appointments for the CCC chair, commissioners and CEO to three months, unless there is bipartisan PCCC support
- Reinstate the CCCs corruption prevention function as well as the CCCs independence when undertaking its research function
- Allow complaints to be made anonymously to the CCC.
Some of these objectives would restore provisions of the Act to their pre-2014 status.
