Report No. 64, 56th Parliament - Co-operatives National Law Bill 2020

About the Bill

On 4 February 2020, the Hon Yvette D’Ath MP, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, introduced the Co-operatives National Law Bill 2020.  The Parliament referred the Bill to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee for detailed consideration. The committee tabled its report on Friday 27 March 2020. The Bill was passed on 16 June 2020.

The Bill proposes to repeal the Queensland Cooperatives Act 1997, and in its place apply the Co-operatives National Law (CNL).

The explanatory notes provide that the main objectives of the Bill are to modernise and improve the regulatory framework for the formation, registration and management of co-operatives in Queensland, principally through nationally-harmonised co-operatives legislation.
