False
About the Bill
On 17 March 2020, the Hon Mark Ryan MP, Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, introduced the Corrective Services and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2020. The Parliament referred the Bill to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee for detailed consideration. The committee tabled its report on 29 May 2020. The Bill was passed with amendment on 16 July 2020.
The explanatory notes provide that the objective of the Bill is to respond to the immediate risks identified in the Crime and Corruption Commission’s 2018 report titled Taskforce Flaxton: An examination of corruption risks and corruption in Queensland’s prisons.
The Bill would also:
-
implement recommendations of the Parole Board Queensland (PBQ) to improve the efficacy of functions of the PBQ and the ‘No Body, No Parole’ laws
-
give effect to the Ministerial Council for Police and Emergency Management resolution agreeing to the establishment of a permanent national firearms amnesty
-
support the implementation of the Queensland Police Service policy on replica firearms
-
clarify the information sharing arrangements in the Racing Integrity Act 2016.
