Objective of the Bill
The objective of the Bill is make miscellaneous amendments to over 30 Acts administered by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, including to:
- improve provisions concerning the operation of various commission, court, tribunal and registry processes;
- implement model provisions to allow for accession to international conventions;
- implement red tape reduction measures concerning boards and mechanisms for appointments;
- improve the safety of people who suffer or fear domestic violence;
- clarify that the Information Commissioner may publish the name of declared vexatious applicants; and
- update or clarify definitions and references or make technical amendments.

On 5 June 2013, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, the Hon Jarrod Bleijie MP, introduced the Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2013 into the Queensland Parliament. In accordance with Standing Order 131 of the Standing Rules and Orders of the Legislative Assembly, the Bill was referred to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee (the Committee) for detailed consideration.
The Committee of the Legislative Assembly set a reporting date for the Committee of 12 August 2013.
Report
On 12 August 2013, the Committee tabled its Report No. 39, Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2013. A copy of the report is available here or can be accessed at Related Publications.
The Government tabled its response to the Committee's report on 20 August 2012. A copy of the Government Response is available here or can be accessed at Related Publications.
The Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2013 was passed, with amendment, by the Legislative Assembly on 20 August 2013.
