Referral

On 14 June 2017, Mr Robert (Robbie) Katter MP, Member for Mt Isa, introduced the Working with Children Legislation (Indigenous Communities) Amendment Bill 2017.

In accordance with Standing Order 131 of the Standing Rules and Orders of the Legislative Assembly, the Bill was referred to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee (the committee) for detailed consideration. The committee is required to report by 14 December 2017.

The Bill

This Bill primarily amends the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000.  Consequential amendments are made to a number of other Acts. 

The objectives of this Bill are to provide a new blue card framework that empowers Indigenous communities to make decisions which best serve their interests in relation to child protection and employment of community members.
