Specifications were prepared in 1877 but construction was deferred. The porte-cochere was finally added during the 1980s restoration, but had to be slightly enlarged to allow for the passage of car.
The porte-cochere features light grey Helidon sandstone and a driveway of paved granite and slate finishes. Stone urns with bronze festoons are mounted on either side of the porte-cochere.
The gardens surrounding the porte-cochere are home to Parliament’s native bee hives, several stunning rose varieties, and a grand Jacaranda tree, which provides a carpet of purple flowers in Autumn.
